A grant is financial aid that is given to a person based on a specific need that a person may be having. The grant is normally given by the state, a federal or a particular institution like a college or a university. When a grant is given to a person it need not be repaid as grants are issued in the form of gifts. This is unlike loans which will have to be repaid upon graduation.

The grants are also given according to the subjects that a student is taking and the level of the degree that is being done by the student.

There are also grants that are for the minority populations like the African American, Asian and Hispanic students. Women also have their special grants so are the disadvantaged populations.
There are also specific grants for certain professions like health care and Education among other professions. The grants monies are meant to cover effectively the tuition costs of the accelerated degree programs.
